Description
A delightful Vintage 9ct Cameo Ring carved shell in 9ct gold.
The ring features split shoulders and a lovely ornate border, surrounding the hand carved bas-relief cameo.
Cameos have been around for centuries, but were most popular during Queen Victoria’s reign. They are not only pieces of jewellery but are works of art in their own right.
This ring has hallmarks for 9ct gold, “FkB Ltd” sponsor’s mark and an S date letter – I cannot tell whether the border of the S is that from 1942, or 1917. The bottom of the letter border has faded so I believe it to be vintage from 1940s, but could well be antique from 1917!
It is in excellent condition. It has formed a beautiful, slightly rosy-tinted patina just above the shoulders on either side. I have not polished this off, as I think it adds to the charm of the ring. Do let me know if you’d prefer this polished off.
It is a UK size J or US 5, and weighs 3.36g. From the top of the cameo border (where the coral colour begins) to the bottom, it measures 1.5cms, and 1.3cms across.
This Vintage 9ct Cameo Ring could be resized a couple of sizes if needed.
