Description
This vintage sterling silver snuff box conversion ring is a really interesting piece. I believe the top used to be a snuff box or something similar. Both myself and a professional jeweller agree to this conclusion, as it has a hinge that has been welded shut, and the engraving on the shank is different than that of the box.
This also means the box part of the ring is older than the shank, with a stamp showing 925. Therefore I can only say it is vintage but cannot give a specific date.
It features beautiful engraving throughout, with a large flower motif on the top. As it’s a vintage piece, it has a few surface scratches, with the corners of the box turning down, but I think this just adds to its charm.
A professional jeweller could open the box carefully if one wanted, but there is little point in my opinion! It is obviously a thoughtful conversion and I think it’s best to keep it this way.
It’s a heavy piece, weighing 16.61g. It’s a UK size P / US 8.
